Roses and Chrysanthemum, preparatory pencil drawing.
Part of my roses and chrysanthemum bouquet painting, which I'm working on at present. Oil on canvas.
Part completed central chrysanthemum
Final design outline. Drawn from life. Sadly the anemones didn't hang around long enough to paint them from life as they are here.
Initial drawings of anemones
A page from my sketchbook. Trying to work out the best way to recreate the vibrant deep blue of the anemones.
Initial under wash and veins painted in. The anthers are masked.
Pistils and anthers painted in on the top flower.
The ultramarine blue hasn't behaved quite as it did on the test paper. It's much more opaque and less of the purple is coming through. I knew it was risky to try another layer. I tested it on the test sheet, but once again it's behaved quite differently, sitting on top and separating. I still like this watercolour, despite it's many imperfections but I think it's about to head off in a different direction.
