New Snow on the Levels - Original Painting

280.00

This is an original painting, inspired by a day spent on the Somerset Levels near Glastonbury one February. New snow had just started to fall in big flakes, and the sky was an eerie soft purple. The fields were planted with a feed crop, which was bright green, and the coppiced willows looked weird and prehistoric.

I drew the trees and distance in ink and water, and then painted in the main washes. I used a semi-transparent white oil pastel to soften the distance and push it backwards, scraping detail into its surface. I also used oil pastels to create the texture of the new snow on the field in the foreground.

The painting is 50.5 cm wide by 28.5 cm tall. It is painted in artists' quality watercolour, with Winsor and Newton black indian ink for the drawing, and oil pastels and coloured pencil on 140lb / 300g/m2 watercolour paper.

Framed in a beautiful grey green metallic frame, with a wide dull cream, black centred mount.

This painting is currently framed, in a natural oak 2 cm frame, with a single 2cm white mount, glazed with premium synthetic glass. It can either be purchased with the current frame, or unframed.

Because this picture includes oil pastels it is very fragile and will easily smudge, so it needs to be handled with great care if unframed.

I have tried to choose images of the painting that accurately reflect the appearance and colours of the artwork. However, colours may appear differently on different computer screens and in different lighting. If you wished to return the painting, because the colours were not as you are expecting or for any other reason, this would be covered under our normal returns policy, so long as it was returned undamaged within 30 days and the usual conditions were met.
